It’s not perfect, but it’s the best there is

December 29, 2008

The Democratic Party and its left-wing supporters aren’t happy with America, the Constitution, the tax code and the role of government. If only they could remake America in the image of other failed socialist endeavors, like England, Canada, France, Sweden or even the old Soviet Union. Then, they would love that America more than the one our founding fathers envisioned. If only they could scrap the Constitution and rewrite it for a more ‘contemporary’ society to eliminate any reference to God, duty, personal responsibility and public virtue. Then, they could begin to ‘believe’ in the Constitution.

And, if only they could change the tax code so that it was more like Sweden, where the upper income ranges were taxed as high as 85%, then maybe there would be more to like about America. Never mind that it kills personal incentive and/or moves wealth out of the country. It would be more ‘fair’ to those who don’t achieve, don’t outperform and lead lives with low expectations. And finally, if only government could intrude and control every aspect of every one’s lives except the ruling elite then finally there would be an America even a Democrat could love with all his/her/its heart.

America isn’t perfect. The Constitution isn’t perfect. But both are a whole world better than anything dreamed up by anyone else on this planet at any point in time. When the poop hits the fan, who does the world turn to for help, France? Russia? No, when there’s a tsunami, a famine, an earthquake, ethnic cleansing, economic distress or despotic excess, everyone in the world expects America to jump into the fray and lead the way. Then, they can sit back and armchair-quarterback our actions, especially that cesspool of corruption - the United Nations.

When nations are finally able to throw off the yoke of communism, socialism or totalitarianism, what is their first impulse? They look at America’s system of government, our free market economy and a largely classless society as a worthy ideal, and attempt to organize a constitutional republic. Which begs the question, if the American ideals are so desirable, and most free people hope to emulate it, why are the Democrats so fiercely invested in changing them? Why do Democrats and their leftist masters hate what America and Americans have accomplished over the last 200 years?

The answer is simple. They weren’t responsible for this country’s greatest achievements. Everyday working Americans, entrepreneurs and yes, capitalists, were the ones who built this country into a world power. And now, the socialists want to remake it into some kind of hopeless and dreary utopia. Perhaps they can find someplace else to work their experiments. Canada is nice this time of year. Much like Siberia.

The Yellow Brick Road

December 15, 2008

The Wizard of Oz, aka The Messiah, The Anointed One, The One You’ve Been Waiting For, etc. known formally as President-Elect Barack Hussein Obama is as of today still clear of any entanglements in the Rod Blagojevich affair. Therefore, His Anointedness is proceeding with his Yellow Brick Road plan to create a socialist nirvana, naming ever more extreme leftists to important government positions. The pace hasn’t slowed, even though the Wicked Witch of the MidWest, Rahm Emmanuel, may be called to testify before a grand jury of hopefully not his peers, but average Americans, instead.

The YBR plan (remember, this is a new kind of President) will incorporate lots of pork, handouts and populist pronouncements without doing anything substantial to solve the underlying problems. In fact, it’s more than likely that a Marxist President and a socialist Congress will create many more problems than they will solve and it will take decades to unwind the mess. Think FDR and LBJ. The first is federal insolvency. With a debt load of $40 trillion already on the books and threatening the US economy, His Bad Self is proposing yet another massive Democratic spending spree dressed up as an economic stimulus/green technology package. There’s no point in discussing the benefits of such a trillion-dollar mistake because there are none, unless you happen to be one of the parasites in line to profit from it. The poor, the working poor and the lower middle class will see none of those benefits, because Obama’s ‘vision’ doesn’t include them. That money is intended for unions, specifically labor and government unions, that will see their membership swell exponentially. Government contractors are basically provided their cut for distributing the money to union employees. Government employees are hired to watch over the government contractors. Nothing actually has to be accomplished for all that money, as long as it’s all used up.

Therefore, the only measurable result will be to add more zeroes to the existing debt load. Based on projected government revenues ( our taxes) and how little the government actually puts toward easing its debt load, that $40-plus trillion will be paid off in 3 or 4 centuries, but only if our government stops spending money it doesn’t have. Not money it doesn’t have today, or next year, but money it arithmetically shouldn’t be able to have until 2400 AD. Unfortunately, the money supply continues to grow, printing presses are running on overtime, and entire forests are disappearing to fuel the government’s need to boost inflation. Oh yeah, in case the mainstream media missed this one:  The government wants inflation to go into hyperdrive. Why? The federal deficit can be paid off with zillions of worthless dollars. Problem solved. Back to the printing presses and make it snappy. Will raging inflation destroy middle class Americans? Absolutely. Not the Anointed One’s problem. Hyperinflation gives him and the loony toons in Congress more spending loot and the resulting misery that will keep Democrats firmly in power. The bonus is that they get to blame the Republicans for it.

In the year 2525, with the deficit still alive…

December 10, 2008

His Anointed Self Obama is now pledging to spend $1 trillion to ’stimulate’ the economy in 2009 with additional spending bills heaped on top of an already bulging, pork-laden 2009 budget that quietly passed earlier this year. That would put government spending in 2009 at roughly $5.5 trillion, or 4 times the ‘normal’ bulging, pork-laden budget that sails through Congress. That kind of money could rebuild every road in America, re-string every power and telephone line in the country and even build a few dozen new nuclear power plants. But that won’t happen. There will be a few signature projects, all of them failures, and the rest of the money will disappear down a rathole, leaving only debt service for taxpayers to fund well into the next century or four.

Our government is on the brink of insolvency. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Frank, Dodd and the rest of the socialist elitists controlling Congress and the White House will bankrupt this country. And, they don’t care. The more misery that exists, the more fodder they have for ratcheting down on those who suffer, blaming the rich and the Republicans for the mess the Democrats alone created. What a perfect setup: Lie to the American people. Make them suffer even more. Blame the uninvolved. Grab more power. It’s the Democratic way.

And what do conservatives and Republicans (not necessarily the same) do about this? Nothing. Instead of rabble-rousing the way liberals and socialists have, they hold back. They discuss. They write letters. No, that just won’t do any more.

Socialism is not democracy with free gift bags

December 3, 2008

As liberals in Congress and the media push America into the clutches of a socialist oligarchy, they fail to mention that as part of this utopian fiction we’ll be giving up most of our personal freedoms. In exchange for government handouts and subsidies, Americans will sacrifice prosperity. In exchange for free medical coverage, Americans will sacrifice their personal health. And, in exchange for ‘fairness’, Americans will give up their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It’s a bad deal all the way around. The few who understand just how bad a deal this is are outnumbered 100 to 1 by the idiots who think they’re getting something for nothing.

When thousands stand in line for a flu shot, are denied a heart bypass because they’re too old, or are turned away for medical treatment because their racial quota has already been filled, it will be too late. America is turning itself into a socialist monster of unparalleled dimensions. Unlike Russia and China, which were largely underdeveloped and ethnically homogeneous when communism was imposed, the US is a huge and diverse society with a titanic, sprawling economy. What inequities exist will now by vastly magnified as the ‘experts’ from Washington try to micromanage our lives and livelihoods. For every stupid and short-sighted fix there will be dozens of unintended consequences, each radiating outward and interacting with other stupid and short-sighted fixes. These socialist dilettantes actually believe that they know what they’re doing. And we are their guinea pigs.

That’s where the true genius in the Constitution lies — it created a simple but rigid framework upon which to build a dynamic society and a robust economy that allowed the people, not the politicians, to direct their common fate. No micromanaging required. Society and markets regulate themselves. It may not be terrifically efficient and it occasionally gets messy, but it beats socialism hands down for one simple reason: the innate human drive for personal betterment trumps mediocrity imposed from above.

Democrats and education: a national disgrace

December 2, 2008

Barack and Michelle Obama chose not to send their daughters to Washington DC public schools. Not surprisingly, Barack Obama adamantly opposes choice for children attending DC public schools, characterized as the nation’s worst public school system. This is not an unusual stance for a Democratic politician. The Democratic Party in general doesn’t want any choice in education, reflecting the wishes of its major constituents - teacher unions, public employee unions, socialist activists and the ACLU. For those unfamiliar with the true mission of the ACLU, removing parental choice and parental influence in education is one of its highest priorities. ACLU members are and always have been dedicated to a socialist agenda. The ACLU is and always has been wedded to the Democratic Party.

Therefore, Democrats are unfailingly opposed to any reforms of the public education system or any serious competition. Charter schools have found Democratic politicians to consistently adversarial. Further, a good many Democrats are supporting a nationwide ban on home schooling because it poses a minor threat to the hegemony of the union-controlled public system. As test scores sink, truancy and dropout rates increase, the National Education Association and its rival American Federation of Teachers can only offer a single solution - more money. This despite the fact that the US spends more than twice as much as the next biggest spender, and still ranks 55th in scholastic achievement globally.

Teacher unions, academics and schools of education ignore calls for reform. Study after study has shown that the techniques and fads embraced by public educators and many college professors are flawed, stupid and wildly inappropriate. And still, the education monopoly plows forward, confident in its political heft and gamesmanship.

One need only to watch as DC school chancellor Michelle Rhee attempts to reward good teachers and fire incompetent teachers. The firestorm has now involved not only teacher unions and the ACLU, but Congress itself, simply because the chancellor wants to strip tenure away from truly bad teachers. But, why should elementary and secondary public school teachers get tenure when 60% of college professors don’t have tenure? In fact, tenure doesn’t even belong in public schools in the first place. The concept of tenure was developed in the late 1800s to protect the religious beliefs of a college professor, can you believe it? And here, teacher unions have applied tenure to the protection of incompetent, even dangerous, teachers who are screwing up our kids. And the Democrats back them 100 percent.

Democrats have no problem backing the teacher unions and the ACLU. After all, incompetent teachers create ignorant citizens. Ignorant citizen don’t discriminate between BS and reality when it comes to political discourse. Ignorant citizens can make their way to the voting booth as easily as informed citizens. Unions provide shuttle buses for the ones who can’t find voting booths on their own. For Democrats, a screwed up public education system is all upside and no downside. It perpetuates and grows a solid, consistent voting bloc. Could it be that Democrats are so cynical and self-serving that they are perfectly willing to ruin millions of lives, destroy this country’s future and impair opportunity for the sake of power? You betcha.

Why $25 billion won’t help carmakers

November 30, 2008

The $25 billion in taxpayer dollars granted (not a loan, but a gift) to US carmakers is not actually intended to keep these companies afloat. Rather, this is a payoff to labor unions for their unwavering support of the Democratic Party and its near-total sweep of Congress and the White House. The $25 billion, and the next $25 billion and whatever follows is largely earmarked for union workers, their health benefits and their pensions. And, it keeps union bosses flush with money from dues and ‘management fees’ derived from handling medical benefits and pensions investments. Very little of that taxpayer money will be used to develop new transportation technologies or enhance current vehicle technologies. And no, it won’t be used to develop high-mileage vehicles.

Because nearly everyone in America suffers from long-term memory loss, it’s important to understand what’s going on in Detroit and the impact this is going to have on the rest of the country. Two years ago, GM was able to shift its pension and benefits liabilities to the United Auto Workers, which gladly accepted this enormous responsibility. Ford and Chrysler will follow. Why? Because the UAW knew that if Democrats were in power, it would have no problem shifting these liabilities to the federal government and have all Americans chip in to cover their operating expenses and salaries. They’ve succeeded. Their plan has been executed to perfection. Now, it’s just a matter of cashing the checks from Washington.

In case this doesn’t make any sense to the reader, one must understand the perverted logic behind it all. It’s quite chilling. Union bosses actually don’t give a damn about the carmakers or the workers they claim to represent. They care about themselves and the union organization. They are perfectly willing to put the carmakers out of business and screw their own members out of pensions and benefits as long as the union continues to flourish. They can run the pensions into the ground, knowing that the Obama administration and a Democrat-controlled Congress will continue to bail them out until the cows come home. Sound familiar? It’s similar to what the parasites on Wall Street did — run their businesses irresponsibly, knowing that the government would be forced to make them whole at the taxpayer’s expense. It’s called moral hazard, a term everyone in America should get really familiar with. Look it up on wikipedia.org

The brown-shirts of liberal intolerance Part II

November 19, 2008

Ann Coulter has had a taste of what liberals will do if you disagree with them, having been assaulted at almost every college campus where she has been invited to speak. What threat could Ms. Coulter pose that college students feel the need to bombard her with vegetables, push her from the stage and hold unruly demonstrations? Apparently dissent and debate is not something liberals can easily tolerate if it’s directed toward them. Karl Rove was similarly accosted by an antiwar activist while onstage during a panel discussion. Funny, no high-profile liberal has ever been pelted with fruit by a group of young conservatives. Al Franken has never had to suffer the humiliation of picking rotten tomatoes out of his hair or trying to outshout some idiot with a bullhorn and yet he encourages, even demands, the very same action be taken against his conservative opponents.

And then, there are the thugs - the ones that show up to disrupt speeches, meetings and events being held by conservatives. The mainstream media spends little time examining the motives and resources of liberal thugs. When they are mentioned, it’s almost always in the context that the targeted conservative truly deserved to be assaulted, or that the conservative’s viewpoints where somehow dangerously inflammatory, controversial or racist. Therefore, these thugs were fully justified in their actions.

The thugs appear wherever pressure is required. St. Paul, Minnesota is probably not a hotbed of liberal thuggery and so one can assume that they were imported specifically for the 2008 Republican convention. Who paid for their travel, food and lodging? It could be some of the many liberal front organizations that receive money from wealthy donors like George Soros or Peter Lewis through intermediaries. The money could have come indireclty from the campaign coffers of Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, or possibly the Democratic National Committee. It’s easy to do. If the Obama campaign can accept millions of dollars in untraceable prepaid credit card donations, it’s likely the money can flow out of the campaigns in equally devious ways. The more likely scenario are private foundations that laundered the money through several layers of middlemen. In any case, liberals feel that the ends justify the means. If a little muscle can get us all to the promised land just a little quicker, so much the better. Lenin would agree.

Payback Time: Union Check Cards

November 11, 2008

The big unions labored mightily to put Obama in the White House and narrowly missed achieving total control in Congress. Better luck next time. The millions of man-hours expended for shuttle services, phone banks, sign placement, rallies, marching and picketing put Democrats in a position to win it all. And now, Big Labor wants its pound of flesh. The Employee Free Choice Act, co-sponsored by Sen. Barack Obama, is nothing like free choice. The traditional secret ballot, protected by state and federal government, would be abolished in favor of a ‘check card’. Union organizers would be allowed to collect signed authorization cards from workers without benefit of confidentiality. Those who don’t sign the check cards would be harassed and intimidated until they did so. Employers wouldn’t be notified that a union organizing drive was underway until union bosses showed up with a contract. And this the unions call ‘modernizing’ the labor movement. The National Right to Work blog of November 2, 2008 has a detailed analysis of what’s really going on.

The Democratic Party is solidly behind the Employee Free Choice Act. Passage in the House is virtually a done deal and 60 votes are a near certainty in the Senate when Congress reconvenes. This is crazy. In those few instances where unions were allowed to get around the secret ballot, union membership skyrocketed to absurdly high numbers. Does anyone think that workers voted in a union of their own free will? Does anyone think those workers’ lives where improved in any significant manner? Certainly, no one believes that the employer suddenly acquired a more professional workforce. No doubt, the union bosses were able to extract some small pay increases almost immediately. But that didn’t make it into the workers’ pockets. No, it paid the newly instituted union dues. So who’s the parasite here? Employers create jobs. Employees fill those jobs. What exactly does a union do?

Eighty years ago, the unions had a valid reason for being. Forty years ago, much of that reason vanished when the cumulative effect of state and federal labor laws provided the same worker protections. There was no reason for unions to exist except for collective bargaining - representing workers as a group to negotiate for pay raises and expanded benefits. Unfortunately, human nature being what it is, it didn’t take long for unions to begin demanding pay increases well beyond what employers could afford to pay. Why would a union do that? Simple: union bosses don’t get a raise unless the workers they represent get a raise. Yes, it’s shortsighted, it’s stupid and in the long run it’s destructive, but then no one has ever accused unions of being business-oriented or entrepreneurial.

But, union leaders are street savvy. They know the traditional manufacturing jobs they once represented are no longer viable. They also know that they’ll have difficulty organizing knowledge workers like engineers or software programmers, and small business employees. Instead, they’ve targeted local, state and federal government. Why? It’s an endless source of money, courtesy of the American taxpayer. No one’s in charge, no one is accountable and the unions can run wild. And, Democrats back their activities 100%. Can it get any better than this? Yes, it can. The Democrats also back the Public Safety Employee-Employer Cooperation Act, which forces local and state governments to negotiate raises through union bosses instead of directly with police officers, firefighters and emergency personnel. Some 22 states would have to change their laws in order to comply and thousand of first responders could no longer simply ask for a raise on an individual basis.

The cash flow from government employee dues must be gigantic. But no one knows for sure. That cash flow will be used to push for a new organizing effort across the country the likes of which hasn’t been seen since the 1930s. It’s no coincidence this is going to happen on President Obama’s watch. In fact, it’s probably been in the planning stages for years.

What, No Witch Hunt?

October 31, 2008

The silence is deafening. Other than unproven, unsubstantiated claims that the ‘failed policies of the Bush Administration’ created the current economic crisis, there hasn’t been much new information from either Congress or the Obama campaign. Usually, if an unpopular administration is being blamed for something as earth-shattering as a global financial collapse, there would be at least a dozen investigations and hearings going on. Democratic leaders and back-benchers would be holding press conferences on an hourly basis as administration officials are dragged out of their office to be humiliated in Senate or House committee hearings. TV news anchors would be breathlessly announcing the issuance of subpeonas to various Cabinet members and their aides. Various ‘insiders’ would be grilled in front of TV cameras, while their attorneys worriedly defend their clients’ actions.

But that hasn’t happened. As much as Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would like to trot out some Bush administration officials to answer for their misdeeds, the Democrats know better. Everyone who is awake and alive in Washington DC knows fully well that most of the blame for this economic Armageddon can be laid at the Democratic Party’s feet, along with a government bureaucracy almost exclusively in the Democratic Party camp. In fact, even a preliminary hearing or investigation would quickly reveal how the Democratic Party frustrated every attempt to corral the subprime mess well before it became a global calamity. It probably won’t take too much digging to find connections between CDOs, Wall Street, loosened banking reserve requirements and mortgage brokers, all of which wash back on the Democrats.

It’s fascinating to watch Democratic candidates, incumbents, party bigwigs and their media lapdogs literally  change the subject when the blame game is played. Once again, there are vague aspersions cast on the outgoing Bush administration and some mention of low favorable ratings, but no concrete answers or proof. Democrats are hoping that the whole mess is forgotten. And it will be, if Obama and Biden are elected. They’ll make sure the truth never sees the light of day.

Credit Card Contribution Corruption

October 30, 2008

Obama and his advisers, supporters, flunkies and toadies no doubt rationalize that the ends justify the means. The millions of dollars in untraceable prepaid credit card donations has given Obama an unfair and unethical advantage in the presidential race, along with dozens of other ethical lapses. But, the huge number of small donations in amounts of $100 or less have pushed the $100 million mark. The mainstream media brushes this off. This devastating election fraud receives absolutely no coverage by the major networks or news dailies. Make no mistake — no one donates this kind of money without expecting something in return. Someone illegally investing $100 million is going to expect billions, and isn’t going to be particularly concerned if it grazes the edge of the law.

So, who could orchestrate this multimillion-dollar bonanza for the Obama campaign? It’s unlikely that college kids are sufficiently organized to do so. But, national community organizations, unions, even government bureaucrats, can easily pull this off. We’ll never know. If Obama wins, this will all get swept under the rug. If Congress is still controlled by the Democrats, there will be no hearings or investigations. The Justice Department, the Federal Election Commission and the GAO will be pressured to drop any inquiries into the matter. If McCain wins, he’ll be governing with such a thin mandate that the government apparatus, largely Democratic, will sandbag any serious investigations.

Obama reneged on his pledge to use public matching funds, snookering McCain into signing the documents committing the Republican party to a cap on election spending. At the very last moment, Obama backed out, opting for unlimited donations possible with private money. More importantly, it removed federal oversight of Obama’s fundraising and donation tracking. That’s how millions in overseas dollars were able to boost Obama’s war chest, while his attorneys stall the required reporting. McCain, on the other hand, is stuck with government matching funds, and every dollar going into his campaign is scrutinized before it can be spent. This is a planned, coordinated and unethical strategy to outspend the McCain campaign by a 6 to 1 margin, using unnamed, unaccountable donors and deceitful fundraising tactics. But, that doesn’t bother Obama or his followers. Corruption is the name of the game.
