What, No Witch Hunt?

October 31, 2008

The silence is deafening. Other than unproven, unsubstantiated claims that the ‘failed policies of the Bush Administration’ created the current economic crisis, there hasn’t been much new information from either Congress or the Obama campaign. Usually, if an unpopular administration is being blamed for something as earth-shattering as a global financial collapse, there would be at least a dozen investigations and hearings going on. Democratic leaders and back-benchers would be holding press conferences on an hourly basis as administration officials are dragged out of their office to be humiliated in Senate or House committee hearings. TV news anchors would be breathlessly announcing the issuance of subpeonas to various Cabinet members and their aides. Various ‘insiders’ would be grilled in front of TV cameras, while their attorneys worriedly defend their clients’ actions.

But that hasn’t happened. As much as Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would like to trot out some Bush administration officials to answer for their misdeeds, the Democrats know better. Everyone who is awake and alive in Washington DC knows fully well that most of the blame for this economic Armageddon can be laid at the Democratic Party’s feet, along with a government bureaucracy almost exclusively in the Democratic Party camp. In fact, even a preliminary hearing or investigation would quickly reveal how the Democratic Party frustrated every attempt to corral the subprime mess well before it became a global calamity. It probably won’t take too much digging to find connections between CDOs, Wall Street, loosened banking reserve requirements and mortgage brokers, all of which wash back on the Democrats.

It’s fascinating to watch Democratic candidates, incumbents, party bigwigs and their media lapdogs literally  change the subject when the blame game is played. Once again, there are vague aspersions cast on the outgoing Bush administration and some mention of low favorable ratings, but no concrete answers or proof. Democrats are hoping that the whole mess is forgotten. And it will be, if Obama and Biden are elected. They’ll make sure the truth never sees the light of day.

Credit Card Contribution Corruption

October 30, 2008

Obama and his advisers, supporters, flunkies and toadies no doubt rationalize that the ends justify the means. The millions of dollars in untraceable prepaid credit card donations has given Obama an unfair and unethical advantage in the presidential race, along with dozens of other ethical lapses. But, the huge number of small donations in amounts of $100 or less have pushed the $100 million mark. The mainstream media brushes this off. This devastating election fraud receives absolutely no coverage by the major networks or news dailies. Make no mistake — no one donates this kind of money without expecting something in return. Someone illegally investing $100 million is going to expect billions, and isn’t going to be particularly concerned if it grazes the edge of the law.

So, who could orchestrate this multimillion-dollar bonanza for the Obama campaign? It’s unlikely that college kids are sufficiently organized to do so. But, national community organizations, unions, even government bureaucrats, can easily pull this off. We’ll never know. If Obama wins, this will all get swept under the rug. If Congress is still controlled by the Democrats, there will be no hearings or investigations. The Justice Department, the Federal Election Commission and the GAO will be pressured to drop any inquiries into the matter. If McCain wins, he’ll be governing with such a thin mandate that the government apparatus, largely Democratic, will sandbag any serious investigations.

Obama reneged on his pledge to use public matching funds, snookering McCain into signing the documents committing the Republican party to a cap on election spending. At the very last moment, Obama backed out, opting for unlimited donations possible with private money. More importantly, it removed federal oversight of Obama’s fundraising and donation tracking. That’s how millions in overseas dollars were able to boost Obama’s war chest, while his attorneys stall the required reporting. McCain, on the other hand, is stuck with government matching funds, and every dollar going into his campaign is scrutinized before it can be spent. This is a planned, coordinated and unethical strategy to outspend the McCain campaign by a 6 to 1 margin, using unnamed, unaccountable donors and deceitful fundraising tactics. But, that doesn’t bother Obama or his followers. Corruption is the name of the game.

Parasites as pawns

October 29, 2008

The Democratic Party has long been the champion of the working man, the single-parent family, the poor and disenfranchised. The Democratic Party has held power in Congress for the better part of 60 years over the last 75 years. In the 1930s and 1960s, Democrats controlled Congress, the White House and the Supreme Court at the same time. In sharp contrast, the Republican Party controlled Congress for roughly 14 years over the last 75 years. A Republican president, a Republican-controlled Congress and Supreme Court hasn’t been possible in more than 100 years. Some will point to the years during the George W. Bush administration where Republicans nominally held power in both houses of Congress. However, the May, 2001 defection of Republican Senator Jim Jeffords of Vermont effectively gave Democrats control of the Senate until 2004. They were able to stall everything from Cabinet appointments to Social Security privatization until voted out in 2004, only to be voted back in during the 2006 elections. In short, the Democrats have held power most of the time. During the 1930s and 1960s, they were literally able to do as they pleased.

During those two periods, Democrats created legislation, programs and policy whose negative effects are still felt today. Over the course of the last 75 years, this ‘party of the working man’, this fierce protector of womens’ and civil rights has helped precisely, exactly, no one. The track record isn’t just dismal, it’s downright frightening. The New Deal, the New New Deal, the Square Deal, the War on Poverty, the Great Society, and dozens more socialist-inspired, big-government projects have burned trillions of dollars only to create more poverty, more unemployment, more crime, more drug abuse, more single-parent homes, more underachieving students, more government, more regulation and more economic disparity. The Democrats have ruined everything they’ve touched. And yet, they are poised to yet again take total control of the government in 2009. This could go a long way toward explaining the volatility of stock and bond markets as election day neared.

The working poor, the impoverished and the lower middle class have been promised manna from heaven by the Anointed One. They are oblivious to the fact that they are merely pawns in a power struggle. They will not benefit from a Democrat controlled government. In fact, if history provides precedent, they will suffer even more. The beneficiaries of the new regime will be government employees,  unions (but not union members), trial attorneys, political pressure groups and insiders, moneylenders, government dependents and contractors. Those who suffer will be cynically used as a bloody shirt by the Democrats to retain power, to demand even more sacrifices from the remaining taxpayers and to justify whatever tactics are necessary to suppress dissent. If all this sounds a bit unsettling, you’d better get used to it. This is the dark and dreary utopia that Democrats have in mind for us.

The Democratic Party has every intention of controlling not only the levers of power in government, but the control knobs of the economy. They intend to ‘plan’ the economy and ‘plan’ growth. Does this sound familiar? If not, look up Lenin and Mao on the Wikipedia site. Also, note that both of these gentlemen found it necessary to starve, kill and/or imprison anyone who disagreed with them. Will Obama and the Democrats do the same?

Can you spell d-e-m-a-g-o-g-u-e?

October 29, 2008

As H. L. Mencken put it, a demagogue says what he know to be lies to people he knows to be idiots. And those idiots happen to be a product of our public education system. How conveniently circular. In fact, it’s likely that those voting for demagogues like Barack Obama can’t even spell the word. They’re also indiscriminate consumers of the stuff TV networks and newspapers cram down their throats. These Americans are going to vote with their emotions, not their brains. They are so immature that they’re willing and eager to place their lives in the hands of someone they don’t even know, whose past is shrouded and whose true intent is unknown.

Barack Obama is an enigma. On one hand, he represents everything positive this country can offer a person of color — opportunity, education, social mobility and extraordinary economic rewards. He has achieved much. On the other hand, he represents how race politics can be used as a weapon against opponents and how class warfare becomes a means to grab power. And, this will likely sweep him into the White House. Senator Obama has made a lot of extraordinary promises during his campaign. Many of them are possible only if the upper middle class and the wealthy of this country are severely penalized for their hard work and risk-taking. He’s played to people’s greed and avarice as well as their envy of productive Americans. In fact, his entire campaign is based solely on promising something for nothing.

America is steeped in a pervasive culture of entitlement. Obama has taken advantage of that. The question that remains is how quickly Obama and a Democrat-controlled Congress will push this country into the abyss of state socialism. That’s not an ‘if’ question, but rather a ‘when’. The plunge into socialism is a foregone conclusion. Apparently, Americans will have to learn that socialism is a fraud on their own.

From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.

October 27, 2008

Obama has made no secret of his wealth distribution jihad. And, the paralells to Karl Marx just keep piling up. He has promised to right all wrongs, take from the rich and give to the poor. This, of course, has the effect of a feeding frenzy. The parasites, sensing a payday, are already rejoicing. But that celebration may be premature and probably short-lived. That’s because the masses voting for Obama’s redistribution plan aren’t the ones to benefit from it. The payoff will be enormous for trial lawyers, lobbyists, Hollywood types, and other moneyed members of the liberal elite. The average working stiff will instead get stuck with the bill, or at the very least, won’t get much in return for his/her vote.

Obama and Biden will institute a statist form of socialism that effectively closes off opportunity and upward mobility for those who haven’t already clawed their way to an elite status. They’ll do this with crippling taxes, mountains of red tape and invasive social engineering. Outside of American Idol, the doors to personal achievement and true wealth-building will be closed. In other words, America will now resemble the rest of the world. For all their class warfare demagoguery, it’s the Democrats who want to formalize and freeze class distinctions. It keeps them in power for as long as they can fool the working and middle classes into believing they are the party of the common man. That was a lie way back in FDR’s day, as much as it is today. And once Democrats control the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court, they will pass laws and regulations to make sure they’ll never be voted out. Our most fundamental right will have been taken away.

This is not idle speculation. The Mackinaw Center discovered such a plot in Michigan, where Democratic legislators, lobbyists and various ‘grass roots’ groups were attempting to create legislation and policy that would have guaranteed Democrats total control of state government with no accountability and no public recourse. They could not be voted out of office. By the way, this went unreported in the state’s largest newspapers and TV stations. A few radio talk show hosts were the only ones to mention this overt abridgement of voting rights and representative government. Michigan Republicans were able to muster a creaky, tepid response that put the measure on hold. To Democrats, this was only a temporary setback. They lie in wait. One wonders how many other states have similar measures in play.

Running on empty

October 24, 2008

Once Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taken over by the government, it wasn’t much of a stretch to have the government invest in private sector banks, buy their bad loans and generally reward poor performance. When the guys at GM got wind of the handouts, they wanted some, too. And then Arnold let Washington know that California wasn’t doing so well, either. Not be outdone, New Hampshire jumped up and starting squawking, too. Cities and counties threatened to default on their bonds. Everyone was jumping on the bailout bandwagon. But, the tractor pulling the bandwagon was running on empty.

Lost in the glare of media attention was a move by the Fed to pump $600 billion in freshly printed, unbacked dolars into the banking system to ‘create liquidity’ a day before the bailout bill was signed into law. Just a few weeks before that move, the Fed had already started shoveling money out the window with its special lending deals to banks and financial holding companies. Once the bailout package was enacted, several of the largest banks in the country (and the world) took advantage of the government funding and mortgage buybacks. The banks were supposed take this cheap money and immediately start lending it to their best customers at reasonable rates. They didn’t. Some of them sat on the money, waiting for market opportunities they could exploit with their huge piles of cheap cash. Others targeted smaller regional banks for acquisition. And a few started buying up the very same mortgage pools that they’d abandoned just a few weeks ago. The only difference is that these mortgage securities and derivatives were now priced way below market. A bargain, especially if you’re flush with billions of borrowed taxpayer dollars. What about lending to small business and consumers? You must be kidding.

Treasury Secretary Paulson is a smart man. He’s been under enormous pressure to save the US and world economies from annihilation, and he’s partly succeeded. What neither he nor anyone associated with the bailout package can prevent are the unintended consequences. Banks, investors, hedge funds, state budget directors, bond traders, insurers and even auto executives started to game the system, looking for ways to get a piece of this trillion dollar bonanza. The bailout package was probably a good idea. Only time will tell. Something had to be done to pump up confidence and nothing works better than a flood of money. But, even though the printing presses are running day and night, even the US Treasury will find a bottom to that wheelbarrow of cash. Printing even more money can flip deflation caused by a growing recession into hyperinflation in an eyeblink. This country could be facing the specter of stagflation, when the economy is in recession but prices spiral out of control.

For the last month, business TV pundits talked about ‘testing new lows’ in the stock markets and ‘credit freezes’ for businesses. What’s lurking in the background is something way bigger - national defaults. Russia is on the verge of reneging on its foreign debt. Again. Given the fragility of both the equity and debt markets around the world, a Russian default would have devastating consequences worldwide. And they have the mendacity to do it. What Russia lost in the Cold War, it can win back here and now. With financial markets underwater, America, Europe and a few affluent Asian countries cannot float the entire world. Russia and its old allies, the oil-rich Muslim nations of the middle East, can make their moves unimpeded. What they’ll do and how far they take it is anyone’s guess. Let’s hope they lose their nerve.

Growing the next generation of parasites

October 23, 2008

If the unthinkable should happen — somehow, against all odds, John McCain wins the presidential race – the Democrats would have suffered only a tiny, temporary setback. In 2012, there is another race for the White House and another 20 million new voters. These new voters will be predominantly Democratic by party affiliation and fully indoctrinated in the ‘benefits’ of a socialist economic and governmental system. In fact, the job of the Democrats will just get easier and easier as the years go by. Time is on their side. As the WWII generation disappears and Baby Boomers start to drop off in increasing numbers, what’s left of a conservative base will dwindle to an embattled, tattered minority in Generations X and Y.  On the horizon, the high school class of 2012 promises to be fully versed in socialist dogma. They will be ready, willing and able to carry out whatever is demanded of them by their leaders. America as we know it could be gone.

The rest of the world will delight in this. As anxious as they are for Americans to save them when calamity strikes, the world is eager to see this country and its people taken down a notch or two. Little do they realize that America is the glue that binds the modern world. With America in steep decline, the ‘global’ economy and ‘global’ society quickly becomes a ’local’ economy and society. It’s American technology and investment that keep the world’s telecommunications, IT, commerce, capital markets and even oil production going. A socialist government would kill personal incentive and entrepreneurship. The flow of ideas, capital and personal effort would dry up.

Parasites, their champions and enablers, don’t seem to grasp this, or don’t want to know. If the rewards for hard work and personal achievement are taken away, no one will risk their time or effort just to enrich the government or its dependents. There would be no point. The economy would shrivel along with economic opportunity. This isn’t something that Democratic politicians, academia or mainstream media want Americans to know and understand. They’re serving their own ends with lies, fake science and demagoguery to mask this unpleasant truth.

It’s up to conservatives, Republican or otherwise, to make the succeeding generations understand what’s in store for them if the socialists prevail. It won’t just mean higher taxes or nationalized health care. That’s only the beginning. The government and the regulation of peoples’ lives with grow explosively. For example, in the 12 years that England’s socialist Labor Party has been in power, Parliament passed more the 1,000 ‘laws’ that allowed their government to enter any one’s home without a search warrant or even a knock at the door. The “Exotic Plant Specie Inspection Act” allow police to storm into any British citizen’s home at any time of day or night to ‘inspect’ all the homeowners’ indoor plants and confiscate unlicensed tropical orchids. Yes, in merry old England, you must pay a special tax to grow orchids in your own home. Once a country falls into socialism, the government runs wild. And, once socialism is installed, it can’t be voted out, because the government owns too much of the economy. It’s almost impossible to pry politicians and bureaucrats away from the levers of power once they’ve tasted absolute power.

Before conservatives Boomers hang up their spurs and ride off into the sunset, they are duty-bound to make amends for their liberal brethren. The Baby Boomers created the mess we’re in. They bought into the intellectual fraud perpetrated at colleges across the country in the 1960s and early 1970s. They accepted situational ethics and moral ambiguity as their behavioral standard. Bill Clinton is their role model. And they are unrepentant or too brain-damaged to know or care about the destruction they’ve visited on this country.

It will fall to the few to make good on the sins of the many. To save this country, to pass it on to future generations in the form that it was founded, conservative Boomers must involve themselves in passing on the ideals and values that made this country the wonder of the world. It can’t be phoned in. Boomers need to engage in the political process, get involved in local politics, agitate for conservative values and demand that their system of beliefs is restored to society, government and commerce. It wasn’t socialism or communism that made this country great. It was personal freedom, capitalism, free markets and a free society. Was it perfect? No, nothing is. But it’s a quantum leap beyond anything else out there, including the false religion of socialism. It’s an inescapable fact that socialist regimes have all been failures. All of them. And Boomers are compelled to make each succeeding generation to fully understand that before they leave the world stage.

Can you live in servitude?

October 22, 2008

Americans, on average, make for really lousy serfs and servants. A couple hundred years enjoying unequalled freedoms, a largely classless society and social mobility make Americans a very independent sort of people. They chafe and complain under too much authority and too many rules. Better get used to it. A life of servitude awaits at the end of the Obama song and dance routine. Even the parasites who voted in the Anointed One and the creatures inhabiting Congress will find that life won’t be so rosy once the Gang of Three takes over. Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will begin where Lenin began. Hopefully, they won’t end up where Stalin did.

They’ll shake down the rich. When the rich are no more, they’ll shake down the merely affluent. When the affluent are gone, they’ll start on the ‘middle class’. One detail Obama omitted in his oratory: There aren’t enough wealthy people to give the masses what they’ve been promised. The top 2% of wage earners can’t begin to pay for the other 98%, even if the government took away everything they have. It does not compute. But, most Americans have been so poorly served by the public education system they can’t figure it out. Hhmm.

The Democrats will be swept into office by pandering to the parasites, promising them the riches earned by the producers. And, those parasites aren’t necessarily the stereotypes that first come to mind. In fact, the most pernicious, coldly effective parasites are members of the liberal elite. They are affluent, educated, politically connected insiders. They firmly believe in class distinctions provided, of course, that the prevailing social structure puts them at the very top. Everyone else is here to carry their bags and wash their cars. In cascading order will come the others — bureaucrats, moneylenders, unions, and at the very tail end, the people who truly need to be helped.

It is stunning that so few Americans are uninvolved in something so important. A recent study suggests that fewer than 15% of Americans know who Nancy Pelosi is, even as she endeavors to take food off their tables, money out of their wallets and boost energy costs into the stratosphere. But what Americans don’t know and don’t care about will condemn them to a life of servitude. The promised change is coming.

A bitter harvest

October 21, 2008

America’s parasites are welcoming the presumed ascendancy of Barack Obama to the highest office in the land. He’s made promises up and down the socio-economic ladder to just about anyone he thinks will be able to cast a vote, legally or illegally. There will be more pork, says Obama. There will be more handouts, says Obama. There will be more welfare of every form, says Obama. And he’s not hiding the fact that there will be more taxes to pay for it all. But, that tax will be paid only by the richest in the land, who couldn’t possibly have made that money by their own effort, comittment and risk. It was wealth accumulated by some nefarious, unknown means that in all fairness must be distributed to all. So says Obama. And when elected, he and his Democratic henchmen will put this country through a wrenching, hellish transformation.

Obama, the one we’ve all been waiting for, knows nothing of wealth creation and what makes this country so very different from the rest of the world. And if he does, he doesn’t care. Like Lenin and the Bolsheviks, Obama, Pelosi and Reid will experiment with the economy, the political process, the role of government and the structure of society. We will be the guinea pigs, as will our children and their children. They will solidify their power so that the Democratic party can never be voted out of office and government can grow exponentially. This, they have solemnly promised America. They don’t have to hide their agenda anymore. The parasites, who outnumber the producers, focused on the promises of easy money and government handouts, cheerfully giving up their economic freedoms.

The transition into socialism will be subtle. The transformation into a socialist state, with its ruling elite, party apparatchicks and clueless masses will not. When millions of middle class Americans are jobless, homeless and hopeless as Obama twists the knobs and fiddles with our fates, it will be too late to point out that the Democrats made their intentions very clear. And even the parasites will suffer. Because they’re no longer needed to vote, apply political pressure or write big campaign checks. They’ll be cast aside and told to fend for themselves — a bitter harvest to be sure.

Who’s to blame?

October 20, 2008

There are loads of people to blame for the housing collapse, mortgage mess, the credit lockup, stock market losses and structural damage to the world economy. Although they’re related, these are individual catastrophes, each with a free-standing potential to destroy America’s ‘free market’ system. There’s no getting away from the fact that this global problem started right here and that the wealth of other nations and other peoples will be dissipated along with our own. And, they’re not particularly happy about. They will, therefore, exact a price for the stupidity and short-sightedness of a very few Americans which in turn will be borne by all Americans.

But, who are ‘they’? Who shoved their fellow citizens into a morass that may take us decades to backfill? According to Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), he wasn’t in any way responsible. Neither was Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), nor Franklin Raines, or Tim Johnson. But then neither was Chris Cox, Harvey Pitt, Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernancke, John Thain, etc. The list goes on and on. The blame rests with Democrats. The blame rests with Republicans. The speculators, Wall Street fat cats, bankers, hedge fund managers, ratings agencies and who knows is to blame. Unscrupulous mortgage brokers, various financial intermediaries, homeowners, homebuilders and a cast of thousands are also implicated. Like the stock market speculation of the tech bubble, the real estate and credit market speculation was a bubble destined to burst. But no one could have imagined the far-reaching, devastating consequences. But in hindsight, there could have been no other outcome.

Over the years, little pieces of legislation and regulation were added, deleted or amended. A small change in real estate lending policies here, a capitalization requirement there - it seemed innocuous, something that the economy could easily afford. But there were hundreds of incremental changes in a hundred different areas of finance, banking and investment that no one could track, all building on one another. The resulting mess is equally complex. Nevertheless, there is one more shoe to drop — the response to this American-made calamity by the rest of the world. How harsh and painful it will be is anybody’s guess.
